True Grit Review

By Kayley Erlandson

Listen carefully. Can you hear it? That's the sound of the Oscar buzz surrounding this remake of the classic John Wayne movie.

Despite the Coen brothers' tendency to turn movie genres on their heads, True Grit is essentially a western, although it takes on a slightly parodic, yet loving, approach. It’s darker and dirtier than the more light-hearted westerns of decades past, but amidst the bloodshed, it still manages to be fun.

  1. You did a good job of describing the success that this movie is bound to have. However, if I hadn't seen it I may not have been convinced to see it. This is basically because of my habit to not believe most reviewers. When I think of the Oscars I think of all those dumb movies that snobs like that I don't care for. But, you are exactly right about this movie.

  2. I absolutely loved the review. The only thing I would say is to add more to it. Whatever you were doing up there works, but it may need more content to draw someone in. It also depends on the audience. One may read a little and want more (go see the movie) or one may read a little and not see it because it didn't take them in enough. Otherwise GREAT JOB!

  3. Another thing, I would definitely see the movie after your review because I am the type who reads a little and wants more!

  4. I agree with Dillan, it was a good review but I want more to be totally convinced. I like what you said, another paragraph would really hook me.
